But for most people, we recommend that you choose the correct roast for your brewing method. Use lighter roasts for filtered coffee and light to medium roasts for espresso. Most alternative brewing methods, such as the V60 or Kalita Pour-Over, also require lighter roasts. This is because dark roasts tend to destroy the complexity of high-quality coffee, which can leave you with nothing more than a “burnt toast” taste.
